WEEKEND WRAP - January 23rd - 28th

Webmaster

THURSDAY

Norway House would hit the road in search of their second win of the year to take on the Cross Lake Islanders. The Islanders would put up 13 goals on their way to a 13-6 win. Dennis Scatch would have himself a night to remember putting up 3 goals and 5 assists for an 8 point night! Wilfred Mcleod, Derian Garrioch and Justin Dorion would also chip in with 2 goals each, and Vince Scott, Kadin Ross, Julius Scribe and Morgan McKay would add singles. Marcus Ross would stop 44 of 50 to pick up the win between the pipes. The North Stars would get two goals from Tyler McKay, and singles from Jaden Osborne, Roman Muminawatum, Keeshton McKay and Elvis Balfour. Jamie Anderson would start and be credited with the loss, stopping 22 of 25 in a busy effort.

FRIDAY

Cross Lake would travel north to Nelson House to take on the Flames in a rare Friday night tilt. The Flames would come out hot at home, and collect hat tricks from Michael Venne and Henry Muchikekwanape. Trent North would chip in with two goals, and Jonathan Saunders, Lance Laycock, Keistin Saunders and Keenan Keeper would add one each to help Braedin Melstad pick up the win in net. He would stop 25 of 27 in a stellar effort. Cross Lake would reply with tallies from Kadin Ross and Tyler Monias, with Marcus Ross having a tough night in net stopping 32 of 44.

SATURDAY

Cross Lake would return for a Saturday afternoon tilt in Nelson House that would see the game head to the 3rd period tied. Jerome Linklater would convert on a penalty shot halfway through the third, and then have his teammates add three more to pick up a 9-6 win. Michael Markus would pick up a hat trick, and NCN would add goals from Jonathan Saunders, Michael Venne, Jerome Linklater (PS), Charles Monger, Lance Laycock and Keenan Keeper. Kruz Mitchell would battle to stop 15 of 21 to grab the W in net. Cross Lake would get a strong effort from Peter Ross in net, battling to stop 30 of 39 in being dealt the loss. Goals of the sticks of Logan Evans, Dennis Scatch, Kadin Ross (2), Derian Garrioch and Justin Dorion would send the Islanders home empty handed this weekend.

Over in OCN, the Storm would welcome the Peguis Juniors for a weekend series starting Saturday night. The Storm would start strong and put up five first period goals en route to a 6-3 win. Two goal efforts from Keith Monias and Ron Campbell, along with singles from Tanner Barbeau and Dion Fontaine would set them up early, to allow Braxton Constant to pick up the win in net stopping 32 of 35. The Junior’s would respond with goals from Marcus Crate, Quinton Flett and Nathaniel Murdock. Drey Flett would stop 32 of 38 in a losing effort in net.

SUNDAY

The Junior’s would look to come away with a weekend split in OCN, taking on the Storm Sunday afternoon. A strong third period would skate them to the split and a 9-4 win. League leading scorer and point producer Tyrome Spence would pot 4 goals on the afternoon, with Darian Murdock adding two of his own. Quinton Flett, Ethan Daniels and Nathaniel Murdock would add 1 each of their own, and Drey Flett would grab the W stopping 28 of 32. OCN would respond with goals from Sheldon Chartier, Troy Head (2) and Noah Butler, while Seth Ngeogan would stop 37 of 46 in a losing effort.

TUESDAY

The North Star’s would hit the road for a midweek tilt with the Cross Lake Islanders looking for their first win of the New Year. Cross Lake would do them no favours, and get out to a 7-0 lead before the North Stars would get on the board. Too little too late however, as the Islanders would continue to light the lamp in securing a 14-2 victory on home ice. Goals off the sticks of Chris Ross (3), Wilfred Mcleod (2), Logan Evans (2), Treyton Monias (2), Julius Scribe (2), Dennis Scatch, Kadin Ross and Justin Dorion would spot goaltender Marcus Ross a healthy lead, while he would stop 49 of 51 in picking up the win between the pipes. Jonah Ross-Bradburn and Keeshton McKay would score for the North Stars in the losing effort, and would see Jamie Anderson tabbed with the loss stopping 21 of 30.

Sponsorship Announcement

The Keystone Junior Hockey League (KJHL) is proud to announce a new partnership with Western Nations Fuelled by Co-op, which has joined the league as a major sponsor. This collaboration marks an exciting milestone for the KJHL, a league made entirely of First Nations hockey teams dedicated to developing young athletes across Northern Manitoba and beyond. "We are thrilled to have partnered with Western Nations Fuelled by Co-op in promoting Junior Hockey in Northern Manitoba," said Marcel Fontaine, President of the Keystone Junior Hockey League. "This partnership will help strengthen the opportunities for our players, support the growth of First Nations hockey, and enhance the overall experience for our communities and fans." While the KJHL is proudly comprised of First Nations teams, the league welcomes players from all backgrounds and communities across Canada. Young men from every race and region come together through the KJHL, united by their passion for hockey and the spirit of teamwork. The sponsorship from Western Nations Fuelled by Co-op will help support league operations, community engagement initiatives, and player development programs. Both organizations share a commitment to empowering youth and fostering community pride through sport. The KJHL continues to play a vital role in promoting hockey throughout Manitoba’s northern First Nations, offering young athletes the chance to compete at a high level while staying connected to their culture and communities - while also welcoming new players from across the country who share a love for the game.
Message from the President

A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

As the President of the Keystone Junior Hockey League, ahead of the start of a new season, I would like to acknowledge all of the hard work of the KJHL Executive Board, all of the team Governors, General Managers and Coaches on a job well done these past couple of seasons and the importance of keeping Junior Hockey alive and well in the North for our younger generation. The level of competition each team brings makes for exciting hockey, and any team can beat any team on any given night. We are excited for the start of a new season!
