WEEKEND WRAP - October 24th - 27th

THURSDAY

Norway House made the trek over to Cross Lake to face the Islanders in thier season and home opener Thursday night. The excitement didn't take long to transition over to the scoreboard, as Dennis Scatch scored just 29 seconds in to put Cross Lake up 1-0. Hunter York and Drew Tait-Reaume for Norway House and Wilfred McLeod for Cross Lake would send the teams to the dressing room tied at 2 after one. Creighton Chubb would start the 2nd period scoring for Cross Lake on the powerplay, and they would add two more after Elvis Balfour would tie it to take a 5-3 lead into the second intermission. McLeod would pot his second of the game 1:02 into the third, followed by a Vince Scott powerplay marker to increase the lead to four, before Tyler McKay would quickly respond six seconds later. Morgan McKay would then score to get back the four goal lead. This would then cue the North Stars comeback. Elvis Balfour would score his second and third of the game, followed by another two from Chance Queskekapow and Tyler McKay on the powerplay with 36 seconds left which would tie the game at 8 and send it to OT. With no scoring in overtime, Justin Dorion would score in the 6th round of the shootout to give Cross Lake the win. The powerplay was buzzing for both teams, with the Islanders finishing 2 for 5 and the North Stars finishing 3 for 6.

SATURDAY

The Peguis Juniors travelled north to OCN to take on the Storm in the first of two back to back contests Saturday night. The Storm, who were playing thier 5th game of the year, started strong with Noah Butler, Tanner Barbeau and Troy Head scoring first period goals. Peguis would get one back late from Tyrome Spence heading to the intermission trailing 3-1. Dion Fontaine would add another for the Storm just 1:10 into the second before Tyrome Spence took over. He would score his second and third of the game midway through the second to bring the Juniors within one. After that, league leading scorer Bryson Werbicki-Mallet would add two more of his own to give the Storm a 6-3 lead after two. Barbeau would score his second of the game 1:09 into the third to extend the Storm lead to four, before Peguis' Marcus Crate would score a shorthanded marker halfway through the third. The Storm would then clamp down defensively and add one more from Ron Campbell to secure thier fourth win 8-4.

The game between the NCN Flames and Norway House North Stars was postponed due to ice plant issues and will be rescheduled at a soon to be announced date.

SUNDAY

Peguis would come out hot for their Sunday afternoon game against OCN, scoring three in the first 10 minutes. The Storm would respond before the period ended, adding two off the sticks of Mack Hunter and Troy Head (shorthanded) to bring them within one. Chavez Constant would tie it up halfway through the second, before Tyrome Spence would put Peguis back up 4-3 with a shorthanded goal of his own. Bryson Werbicki-Mallet would score his league leading 9th of the year just 47 seconds into the third to tie things back up at 4. Marcus Crate would give the Juniors a 5-4 lead. It only took the Storm 46 seconds to tie things back up with Dion Fontaine scoring. Then, with the Juniors shorthanded, Noah Butler would collect his 4th point of the day, scoring the game winner to give the OCN Storm thier 5th win of the season. Both teams would finish 1 for 4 on the powerplay. Nolan Favel would stop 39 of 45 shots thrown his way for the Juniors, while Braxton Constant would improve to 4-1 on the year stopping 31 of 36.
