KJHL action got going again on Tuesday night, as familiar foes the North Winnipeg Satelites played host to the Selkirk Fishermen. The first period was a tight battle with some scoring chances both ways, but in the end, no goals. The second period saw the Satelites get on the board first with a powerplay marker. The Fishermen answered back with 2 goals, only to have the Satelites tie the game back up at 2-2, heading to the 3rd. The third period was all Satelites, who notched 5 goals, including two in the final minute to put away the game with a 7-2 win.
Matthew Carrey, Vinny Carriere & Kyle Collins all tallied a goal and an assist to lead the Satelites. Grayson Schmidt, Scott Douglas, Kevin Haines & Beau Zelenwich each scored single goals. Marc Hildebrand made 38 saves in the game on 40 shots to claim the win.
Selkirk got single goals from Jeremy Pachkowsky & Cory Balcaen. Jordan Liske made 36 saves on 43 shots in the loss.
Wednesday night had two games on the schedule. Arborg made an appearance in Peguis. It was the Ice Dawgs who got on the scoresheet first, scoring the lone 1stperiod goal. Peguis tied the game up in the 2nd, only to see Arborg go up by 2, scoring 2 goals in 28 seconds to hold a 3-1 lead. Peguis did score another to cut the lead to 3-2, but Arborg again answered that back and held a 4-2 lead heading to the final period. The third period saw Peguis tie the game, with 2 goals scored just 3 minutes apart. The Ice Dawgs were not to be outdone though, as they scored with just over 5 minutes to play in the game, to take the win.
Travis Kilbrei led the Ice Dawgs with 2 goals and an assist. Cory Kuldys chipped in with 2 goals, and Deric Gulay added 2 assists. Jon Narverud made 47 saves in the game for the win.

The second game on Wednesday’s schedule saw the Fisher River Hawks pay a visit to the Lundar Falcons. Lundar struck first in this game, scoring on the powerplay for the first period’s only goal. The second period saw the Hawks tally twice, and hold a slim 2-1 lead. The third was scoreless until just under six minutes to play when Lundar tied the game back up. Just when it appeared this game may head to overtime, the Hawks found the back of the net, and held on for the final minute to record their first win of the season and in first in franchise history.
Darryl Thaddeus led Fisher River with two goals, including the eventual game winner. Nodin Duck had the other Hawks goal. Ryan Bruyere made 49 saves in the game to take the win.
Lundar got single goals from Storm Swan & Troy Kaartinen. Andrew Smith made 9 saves on 12 shots in the Falcons goal.
With no games scheduled on Thursday night, the next KJHL action was on Friday, as the Lundar Falcons travelled south to meet up with the St. Malo Warriors.
Saturday had a heavier schedule, with 3 games on the go, however as it turned out 2 games ended up being postponed. Norway House was unable to travel this weekend, as they were still having mechanical issues with their bus, and the charter they had arranged was not willing to travel the highways due to their condition in the North on Saturday. This meant that both their game Saturday night in St. Malo and Sunday afternoon in Fisher River were cancelled. Also on Saturday, the zamboni broke down in OCN, causing damage to the ice, which meant the game there had to be postponed. It was agreed to by the teams that Sunday’s match up would be a 4 point game however. That left only Fisher River, who looked to stay in the win column as they visited Selkirk for a game against the Fishermen.
In Selkirk, the Fishermen jumped out to a 5-0 first period advantage. They increased that lead to 7-0 by the end of the 2ndperiod. The 3rdperiod saw the Fishermen score 2 more goals, when the Hawks scored to break the shut-out bid. The Fish were well in control and closed with two more goals to take the game 11-1. The game got very chipping in the 3rdperiod with several players being ejected.
Cale McBride led the Fishermen with 5 goals, while Tanner MacVicar added 4 assists. Scott Thomas chipped in with 2 goals and an assist in the game. Cody Melo, Colton King, Daniel Fiebelkorn, Justin Rawluk, Tyndall Fontaine & Jeremy Pachkowsky each added 2 points. Bretton Fewchuk had minimal work in the Selkirk goal, as he faced 9 shots, making 8 saves in the win.
Darryl Thaddeus continued his scoring ways for the Hawks, as he notched the lone goal. Ryan Bruyere started the game, allowing 5 goals on 10 shots, with Dakota Johnson coming on in relief, and making 30 saves on 36 shots.
Sunday’s schedule saw OCN finally get a chance to play against the Ice Dawgs. The Ice Dawgs opened the scoring in the first period, with a powerplay marker, and held a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes. They added 3 more goals in the 2ndperiod, and held a commanding 4-0 lead as the teams headed to the final frame. OCN scored twice just in the 3rdperiod, narrowing the Arborg lead to 4-2, but the Ice Dawgs added some insurance markers late in the period, and held on for the 6-2 win.
Arborg was led by Carter Comeau, who tallied 2 power play goals. Trent Kroeker added a goal and an assist, while Cory Kuldys recorded 2 assists. Travis Schalk made 20 saves on 22 shots to record the win.
Drake Lathlin and Isaiah Francis each scored single goals for the OCN Storm. Luke Penner made 20 saves on 26 shots in the game for the Storm.
Upcoming KJHL action starts on Tuesday, as the Lundar Falcons travel to Mosienko for a game against the North Winnipeg Satelites. Thursday night sees the Selkirk Fishermen play the St. Malo Warriors. Friday’s schedule has two games as the Fisher River Hawks and the Lundar Falcons meet up again, and the Peguis Juniors head to Arborg for a date with the Ice Dawgs. Saturday’s games conclude the week’s schedule as the North Winnipeg Satelites are back in action and visiting the St. Malo Warriors, while the OCN Storm travel east to play the Norway House North Stars. There are no games Sunday as the league takes a day off for the Grey Cup to watch the Hamilton Tiger Cats and the Calgary Stampeders!
