As November drew to a close, the KJHL had a light week of games on the schedule. Action kicked off on Tuesday night as the league-leading North Winnipeg Satelites played host to the Lundar Falcons. The Satelites opened the scoring just 1:10 into the first, however saw that lead evaporate as the Falcons scored two straight goals, one power-play, one shorthanded to take a 2-1 lead. The Satelites battled back hwoever with 2 of their own (again, one PP, one SH), and held a close 3-2 lead after one period. It didn’t take long for the game to be tied back up, as just under 2 minutes into the second period, the Falcons scored to make the score 3-3. The Satelites scored twice more in the period and held a 5-3 lead after 40 minutes. The Falcons scored the lone goal of the 3rd period, with just over 5 minutes to play, but couldn’t muster anymore of a comeback, as the Satelites held on for a nail-biter of a 5-4 win.Kyle Collins led the Satelites with 2 goals and an assist for 3 points, while Bryan MacKenzie added a goal and an assist. Sean Murray chipped in with 2 assists. Keaton Klassen made 22 saves on 26 shots to record the win.Landen Gray scored twice and added an assist for 3 points for the Falcons. Brandon Worthing & Troy Kaartinen each tallied single goals. Randy Quick made 31 saves in the game. Thursday night saw the next KJHL for the week, as the Selkirk Fishermen made a trip south to match up with the St. Malo Warriors. Selkirk scored the lone goal of the first period, with just under 5 minutes remaining, and took a 1-0 lead. The Fishermen scored the second goal of the game early in the 2nd. St. Malo cut the lead in half with a goal of their own, only to see the Fishermen increase it to two with the last goal of the period. Selkirk added two powerplay goals in the 3rd to jump out to a 5-1 lead. The Warriors added one of their own, but this one ended 5-2 Fishermen. Selkirk got a hat trick from Drayton Mendrun. Tanner MacVicar scored a goal and added an assist for the Fishermen. Justin Rawluk scored a single goal. Jordan Liske made 18 saves in the game for the Fishermen.St. Malo got single goals from Bryden Johnson and Jared Magne. Tanner Friesen started the game, allowing 2 goals on 18 shots, with Jordan Taylor coming on in relief in the 2nd period, allowing 3 more goals on 26 shots. Friday night saw two games scheduled with the Fisher River Hawks playing the Lundar Falcons and the Arborg Ice Dawgs playing host to the Peguis Juniors. In Lundar, it was the Hawks who opened the scoring to take a 1-0 lead. The Falcons stormed back however, scoring 4 unanswered goals, including 3 powerplay markers to close the period out leading 4-1. The second period saw the Falcons add two more to their lead and hold a 6-1 advantage going to the 3rd. Fisher River answered back with a shorthanded goal, but Lundar added two more later in the period, and went on to the 8-2 win.The Falcons were led by Landen Gray, who scored a goal and added 3 assists, and Storm Swan, who recorded a hat trick with 3 goals. Braden Lussier added a goal and 2 assists. Dylan Wittinger scored twice, while Breyden Turner & Blake Klippenstein each added 2 assists. Troy Kaartinen chipped in with a goal and an assist. Randy Quick didn’t face much work, stopping 8 shots of 10 fired his way to record the win.Fisher River got single goals from Wyatt McCorrister and Audy Penner. Dakota Johnson made 31 saves in the game on 39 shots. Also on Friday night, the Peguis Juniors and Arborg Ice Dawgs renewed their rivalry. Arborg got on the board first, only to see Peguis answer with goals of their own. Not to be outdone though, the Ice Dawgs tallied two more goals before the period ended and held a 3-2 lead. Peguis got the jump in the 2nd period, and scored 3 times to hold a 5-3 lead after 40 minutes. The Juniors added two more goals before the midway point of the 3rd period and opened up a 7-3 lead. Arborg answered back with a goal, only to see Peguis score again. The Ice Dawgs scored one more goal, on the powerplay, but couldn’t manage anymore, and Peguis skated away with a hard fought 8-5 victory.The Juniors’ captain Presley Kirkness led the team with 2 goals and 3 assists. Joseph Sutherland scored a hat trick and added an assist and Darryl Flett had 4 helpers in the game. Dennis Stevenson scored a goal and an assist and Devon Garson tallied one assist. Jarrod Smith faced 55 shots in the game, making 50 saves to record the win.Arborg’s Rylan Veitch scored twice and added an assist. Aaron Kristjanson & Trent Kroeker eaceh added a goal and an assist. Jon Narverud made 48 saves in the Ice Dawgs’ goal. The final games of the week were played on Saturday night, as the North Winnipeg Satelites visited the St. Malo Warriors and the OCN Storm matched up with Norway House. In St. Malo, it was the Warriors who jumped out to the early lead, scoring twice in the first 2:10. The Satelites answered back with two goals of their own in the latter half of the period and the game was tied 2-2 after 20 minutes. St. Malo scored the lone goal of the 2nd period and held a 3-2 lead. The Warriors added 4 goals in the 3rd period and cruised to a 7-2 win, knocking off the KJHL’s top team.Bryden Johnson scored once and added 2 assists to lead the Warriors with 3 points. Jessi Freund added 2 goals of his own, while Blaise Nordine scored a goal and recorded an assist. Jared Magne chipped in with 2 assists. Kyle Fortin, Jeff Williams & Jeff Froese each added single goals. Jordan Taylor started the game, making 13 saves on the 15 shots he faced, however was ejected for fighting in the second period. Tanner Friesen finished the game, stopping all 8 shots he faced.North Winnipeg got single goals from Kyle Collins & Vinny Carriere. Marc Hildebrand made 15 saves on 18 shots, however was also ejected in the second period for fighting. Keaton Klassen came on in relief, stopping 16 of the 20 shots he faced. The final game of the weekend saw the OCN Storm play Norway House. Norway House took the early lead in the game on the powerplay, however OCN scored twice, includign a shorthanded goal to hold a 2-1 first period lead. The North Stars tallied the lone 2 goals of the second period and held a 3-2 lead after 2 periods of play. The 3rd period saw the North Stars increase that lead to 4-2, and then OCN cut the lead to 4-3 with a goal of their own. Norway House scored again with just over 6 minutes to play. OCN scored on the powerplay in the dying seconds of the game, but it was too little, too late, and the North Stars held on for the 5-4 win.Sam McKay Jr led the North Stars with 4 assists in the game. Brendan Hart added a goal and an assist, while Jeremy Folster, Garrison Garrioch, Austin Ross & Mitchell Muskego each scored single goals. Sean Bradburn made 36 saves on 40 shots to record the win.OCN Storm were led by Tanner Koroscil, who scored twice and added an assist. Justice Genaille tallied 2 assists in the game. Brandon Sinclair-Martin & Jeremy Constant each scored single goals. Luke Penner made 31 saves in the Storm goal. There were no games on Sunday, as the league took the day off so that all players and coaches could enjoy the Grey Cup. December’s schedule kicks off with a busy week of games. It starts Tuesday as the Fisher River Hawks pay a visit to the North Winnipeg Satelites and the Peguis Juniors play host to the Lundar Falcons. It continues on Thursday, as the Peguis Juniors are back in action playing the St. Malo Warriors. Friday’s lone game on the schedule has the OCN Storm on the road playing in Fisher River against the Hawks. Saturday action continues with the St. Malo Warriors visiting the Selkirk Fishermen, and the OCN Storm playing the Arborg Ice Dawgs. Lundar makes a trip to Norway House to play a weekend doubleheader with the North Stars. Sunday also sees the Peguis Juniors have a matinee matchup against the Arborg Ice Dawgs.
