Week 6 Wrap-Up

Week 6 Wrap-Up

S.Heather

Action in the league began Tuesday night, as it often does, with two games.  In Selkirk, the St. Malo Warriors put their recent winning streak on the line against the Fishermen.  The Warriors opened the scoring near the midway point of the first, and held a 1-0 lead until 1:33 remaining when the Fishermen tied the game.  The second period saw St. Malo take advantage of one of their 7 power play opportunities to grab the lead.  Selkirk tied the game with their own power play goal, only to see St. Malo go ahead 3-2 with a goal in the final minute of the 2nd.  The Fishermen battled back in the 3rd to tie the game, but with 7:33 to go, the Warriors scored to take the lead.  They added an empty net goal in the dying seconds to cap a 5-3 win.

St. Malo was led by Jordy Hill and Blaise Nordine, who each scored a goal and added an assist.  Brett Jocelyn recorded two assists.  Jordan Taylor turned aside 36 shots of the 39 he faced to earn the win.
Karl Fey led the Selkirk Fishermen with a goal and an assist.  Jordan Liske made 20 saves on 24 shots in the game.

A little further South, the North Winnipeg Satelites played host to the Lundar Falcons.  The Satelites scored the lone goal of the first period, a power play marker.  Lundar answered back early in the second, and then added another nearly 12 minutes in.  The Satelites replied to tied only 35 seconds later, and the score remained 2-2 after 40 minutes.  Lundar scored just 1:05 into the 3rd period to take a 3-2 lead, and then held on for the rest of the period, including killing off two Satelites power play opportunities to win the game.

Lundar got single goals from Tanner Hepp, Bryce Horning and Byron Spence.  Travis Rigden made 35 saves on 37 shots to record the victory.
North Winnipeg was led by Howard Grieves, who dished out two assists.  Marc Hildebrand made 27 saves in a losing effort.

Wednesday evening had two games on the schedule.  The Arborg Ice Dawgs paid a visit to the Fisher River to meet up with the Hawks.  Arborg jumped out to a 1-0 lead, only to have the Hawks tie the game just 1:33 later.  The Ice Dawgs re-took the lead with a power play marker before the period was over.  In the 2nd, the Ice Dawgs exploded for 4 consecutive goals, take a 6-1 lead.  Fisher River got one back before the period was out, but the damage was done.  The teams traded goals in the 3rd twice, with both Arborg and Fisher River adding power play goals.  When the dust settled the final score was 8-4 Arborg.
