Week 14 Wrap-Up

Week 14 Wrap-Up

S.Heather

Action began this week in the KJHL on Tuesday night, with the lone game being a matchup between the visiting St. Malo Warriors and the Selkirk Fishermen.  As the teams battled for 1st place in the South Division, it was anticipated to be a close game.  St. Malo opened the scoring & then added a power play goal to take a 2-0 first period lead.  Selkirk cut the lead to 2-1 just 1:07 into the 2nd period, and then added a power play goal to tie the game.  Not long after, St. Malo scored a power play goal of their own to re-take the lead, only to see the Fish tie the game back up before the middle frame was done.  In the 3rd, Selkirk scored the only goal of the period, and even strength marker, and held on for the 4-3 win.
Corbin Pasternak scored two goals, including the game winner for the Fishermen.  Both Jeremy Pachkowsky & Milan Horanski scored a goal and added an assist.  Scott Thomas chipped in with 2 helpers.  Riley Bannerman stopped 20 of the 23 shots he faced in the game to earn the win.
Dustin Wiebe led the Warriors with 2 goals.  Jordy Hill scored a single goal.  Jordan Taylor turned aside 31 of the 35 shots he faced.

The next scheduled KJHL game saw the Fisher River Hawks play host to the North Winnipeg Satelites.  The Satelites scored first, but their lead was short lived as the Hawks tied the game.  The 2nd period saw the same result, with the Satelites scoring first and grabbing the lead again, only to see the Hawks tie it, this time on the power play.  The 3rd period had Fisher River scoring first, just 1:25 into the period.  North Winnipeg scored two goals later in the period to regain a 4-3 lead.  With just over 2 minutes to go in the game, Fisher River tied the score at 4 apiece, and then went ahead with 1:08 to go in the period and held on for a 5-4 win.
Brennan Cochrane recorded a goal and 4 assists to be in on every Fisher River goal.  Johnny Bealieu scored twice & Darryl Thaddeus had a goal and an assist.  Jarrett Hogue turned aside 39 of the 43 shots he faced.
The Satelites were led by Jesse McIntosh, who scored once and dished out 2 helpers.  Glen Paupanekis added a goal and an assist.  Trent Sargent faced 50 shots in the game, stopping 45 of them.

The weekend was a busy one in the KJHL, with 3 games scheduled Friday night.
