Parity All Around the Theme of KJHL So Far

With most teams approximately a third of way into their season, it is clear that almost every team is capable of beating another. Eight of the ten Keystone Junior Hockey League team have ten points with the St. Malo Warriors (9-3-0-1) currently on top with 19 points.

St. Malo has close company in the South Division with Selkirk Fishermen (9-5-0-0), North Winnipeg Satelites (5-7-0-1) and Lundar Falcons (5-7-0-0) all still within reach of the top spot. Despite a 2-5 month of November Selkirk has outscored opponents 74-27.

The Fishermen goalie tandem of Riley Bannerman (1.14 GAA) and Travis Schalk (2.71 GAA) are 1-2 among goaltender leaders with Bannerman sporting a brilliant .958 save% in seven games played.

The KJHL top scorers are in the division with Landen Grey (Lundar) and Milan Horanski (Selkirk) each with 16 goals scored. The Warriors' Riley Hunter (14 goals) is close with linemate Jared Magne leading the league in points with 32 in 13 games.

In the North OCN Storm (7-3-0-0) are leading Cross Lake Islanders (5-5-0-1) by just three points while the Norway House Stars are still searching for their first victory. Tony Apetagon (13 goals, 17 assists), Austin Caza (11 goals, 15 assists) and Harold Linklater (14 goals, 11 assists) have provided much of the offense at OCN, but 18 players have scored at least one goal this season.

Arborg Ice Dawgs (6-5-0-0) will host the Keystone Cup this April when they will compete as the host team. They are chasing defending champion Peguis Juniors (8-4-0-0) with Fisher River Hawks (4-6-0-0) close behind in the Central Division standings.

With the post-season three months away one thing is clear; anyone in the KJHL could join Arborg competing in the 2017 Western Canada championship.
