The KJHL is pleased to announce that Chris Baldoke of the St. Malo Warriors has been selected as the South Division scholarship recipient.
Chris has played for the Warriors for 5 seasons. He has shown leadership throughout his time with the team, exhibited by the fact that he has been named an assistant captain or team captain for four out of those five seasons. Chris has been named a league all-star 4 times, along with being in the top 10 in league scoring for the past 2 years. Chris’ commitment to the KJHL will likely continue past his playing days, as he has expressed interest in becoming an assistant coach with the Warriors.
In addition to his success on the ice, Chris has also been successful at school, where he currently attends the University of Winnipeg, and is pursuing a double major in Business and Criminal Justice. He is currently on the Dean’s List. Chris aspires to attend Law school and eventually become a lawyer.
In his spare time, Chris works part-time at Pro Hockey Life, along with volunteering at both Siloam Mission and the West Broadway Day Care in Winnipeg’s inner city. He has also been an instructor the past four summers in the Tom Zajac Hockey School.
In nominating Chris, Warriors’ head coach & GM Ralph Collette noted, “This young man has been a great role model for his teammates and the community of St. Malo. Chris has always represented himself with great pride and honour to play in the KJHL.”
Chris has taken on the leadership role within his team, and has been a source of inspiration and support for both the Warriors and the community of St. Malo.
The KJHL is proud to select Chris Baldoke as the inaugural scholarship winner. He will be presented with his scholarship cheque at an upcoming League meeting.
Congratulations Chris & best of luck in the future!
This the first year that the KJHL has handed out scholarships to its players. There is a potential scholarship for deserving student athletes for both the North and South Division. It is intended to assist those attending post-secondary education while playing in the KJHL. This is to become an annual presentation, and hopefully the league can provide more scholarships in the future to assist players in pursuing their educational dreams.
