Week four of KJHL action began on Tuesday with two games, as the Arborg Ice Dawgs rolled into Mosienko Arena to lock up with the North Winnipeg Satelites and Fisher River visited Peguis.   

In Winnipeg, the Satelites took the lead nearing the mid-way point, only to have Arborg answer back twice within 2 minutes.  The game remained 2-1 Ice Dawgs at the end of one.  The second period saw the Satelites tie the game, only to have Arborg go ahead minutes later.  North Winnipeg answered back with 2 special teams goals (one power-play and one shorthanded) and held a 4-3 lead after two.  The 3rd period saw the Satelites complete the comeback, adding 2 more insurance markers and go on to win 6-3.

The Satelites were led by Kevin Haines who scored 2 goals, while Matthew Carrey added one goal and one assist.  Marc Hildebrand made 23 saves in the game for the win.

Jesse Chupka led the Ice Dawgs with a goal and an assist.  Travis Schalk made 29 saves in the game, allowing 5 goals. 

Meanwhile, in Peguis, Fisher River opened the game with a goal, only 1:03 in.  Peguis answered with 3 of their own, and then traded goals in the last 3 minutes with Fisher River.  At the end of a wild first period, Peguis held a 4-2 lead.  The second period was all Peguis, as the Juniors tallied 4 goals, and opened up an 8-2 lead after two.  The Juniors added 5 more to their total in the 3rd period, while the Hawks added 1 more, and Peguis cruised to a 13-3 victory.

Theoren Spence scored a goal and added 5 assists to lead the Juniors.  Devon Garson also added a goal and 4 assists, while Tyler Woodhouse scored a hat trick and added an assist and Brennan Cochrane tallied two goals and 2 assists.  Tyler McKay & Darryl Flett each recorded 3 points in the game.  Jarrod Smith faced only 19 shots, making 16 saves in the win.

Fisher River saw Darryl Thaddeus, Daniel Menius & Tyler McKay each score single goals, while Arnie Mason added 2 assists.  Both Ryan Bruyere & Dakota Johnson played in the game, with Bruyere suffering the loss. 

With no games on Wednesday, the next KJHL action of the week saw the Norway House North Stars visit the OCN Storm on Thursday night.  The first period of this game saw the teams each exchange goals twice, with OCN opening the scoring, Norway House taking a 2-1 lead & then OCN tying the game back up.  The second period saw the teams fill the net, with OCN scoring 4 times and Norway House adding 3 goals.  The third period started with OCN holding a slim 6-5 lead, but saw that evaporate less than a minute in as Norway House tied the game back up.  OCN re-took the lead on a powerplay goal with 15 minutes remaining, and then added 4 more goals, 3 on the powerplay to close out the game 11-6.

The Storm were led by Maxwell Shoo with a goal and 2 assists & Harold Linklater who added 3 helpers.  Brandon Sinclair-Martin, Justice Genaille, Drew Morin, Brody Personius, Lodie Ipeelie & Isaiah Francis all added 2 points each.  Luke Penner faced 23 shots, turning aside 17 in the victory.

Kenley Monias scored twice for Norway House, while Jameson Scott added 2 assists.  Brendan McLeod made 38 saves in the North Star goal. 

Halloween Friday saw the Selkirk Fishermen try and scare up a win on the road in Lundar.  The first period saw the Fish score twice, and hold a 2-0 advantage.  The Fishermen increased their lead in the 2nd, by adding the only goal of the period.  The 3rd period saw three goals scored in the first 3:18, two by Selkirk and one by Lundar, who broke the shutout bid.  The teams played scoreless for the remainder of the period and the Fishermen came away with a 5-1 win.

Selkirk’s Cale McBride scored two goals to lead the team.  Bretton Fewchuk only faced 13 shots in the game, making 12 saves in the win.

Storm Swan scored the lone Lundar goal.  Andrew Smith made 40 saves on 45 shots in the loss. 

November started the schedule off with 3 games on Saturday night. 

After starting the season on the road due to arena renovations, the St. Malo Warriors finally kicked off the campaign at home against the Selkirk Fishermen.  The Warriors got on the board first, only to have Selkirk answer back.  The second period was all Selkirk, as they scored three times and held a commanding 4-1 lead after 40 minutes.  Both teams traded goals early in the 3rd, and then Selkirk opened up the game, and scored five unanswered goals to hammer the Warriors 10-2.

Tanner MacVicar led the Fishermen with 2 goals and an assist.  Karl Fey added 3 assists in the game.  Cale McBride, Dylan Painchaud-Niemi, Scott Thomas, Tyndall Fontaine & Jeremy Pachkowsky each scored a goal and added an assist.  Brandon Paradoski had 2 assists.  Jordan Liske faced 27 shots and made 25 saves in the victory.

Jordy Hill scored his first junior goal, and Jared Magne added the other St. Malo goal.  Arnel Evans recorded two assists in the game.  Both Jordan Taylor & Tanner Friesen played in the game for the Warriors, with Taylor suffering the loss. 

The Lundar Falcons played host to the Norway House North Stars.  The first period saw the North Stars score 4 times in an 8 minute span, eventually giving up one late in the period.  Lundar responded in the second period with 4 goals of their own, giving up one, and sending the game to the 3rd period knotted at 5-5.  The 3rd period saw Norway House take the lead, only to surrender a goal with 5 minutes remaining to Lundar, who tied it back up.  The final four minutes of the 3rd period saw the North Stars add two powerplay markers to close out the 8-6 win.

Glen Paupanekis led the North Stars with 2 goals and 3 assists, while Braeden Boschman added 2 goals and 2 assists.  Jameson Scott added two goals of his own along with an assist, and Sam McKay also scored & added a helper.  Trevor Scribe chipped in with 2 assists.  Brendan McLeod turned aside 33 shots to chalk up the win.

The Falcons got two goals from Braden Lussier, while Anthony Mikula, Landen Gray & Storm Swan all chipped in with 2 points in the game.  Randy Quick made 26 saves in the game. 

The final game of the night pitted the Arborg Ice Dawgs against the Fisher River Hawks.  The first period saw the two teams trade goals back and forth, and ended in a 3-3 tie.  The second period and third periods were all Arborg however, as the Ice Dawgs found the net 4 times in the 2nd, and held a 7-3 lead & then 6 more times in the 3rd to easily take the game 13-3.

Arborg’s Cory Kuldys led the game with 3 goals & 3 assists.  Travis Kilbrei added 3 goals of his and 1 assist.  Mac Playford, Clint Torfason & Talon Kelly each added 2 goals and an assist, while Trent Kroeker & Aaron Kristjanson both added 3 assists in the game.  There were several players who recorded two points.  Jon Narverud made 31 saves on 34 shots to record the victory.

The Hawks’ Darryl Thaddeus scored twice & added an assist, while Michael Harper chipped in with a goal and an assist & Jared Thickfoot added 2 assists.  Both Dakota Johnson & Ryan Bruyere played in the game, with Johnson recording the loss on his record. 

Sunday had just one game scheduled, between the Norway House North Stars & the Peguis Juniors.  The game however was postponed due to mechanical breakdown of the North Stars bus.
