Week 2 Wrap-Up

Week 2 Wrap-Up

S.Heather

The second week of the KJHL schedule got rolling on Tuesday with two games on the schedule.

The Fisher River Hawks paid a visit to the Selkirk Fishermen at the Rec Complex.  Fisher River opened the scoring, less than a minute into the first period, and held that lead for the remainder.  The 2nd period saw the Fish get on the score sheet, tallying twice.  They opened up a 3-1 lead just past the midway point of the 3rd, only to have it cut to 3-2 when the Hawks potted a powerplay marker.  The Fish added a last second empty net goal to seal the win.

Selkirk was led by Scott Thomas, Jeremy Pachkowsky, Auzzie Lowen & Milan Horanski, who all scored single markers.  Jordan Liske made 23 saves on 25 shots in the Fishermen goal.
Fisher River got two goals from Gavin Mason.  Jarrett Hogue made 49 saves on 52 shots to hold his team in the game.

Also on Tuesday, the Arborg Ice Dawgs made a stop in Winnipeg to play the Satelites.  North Winnipeg took a convincing 3-0 in the first, while Arborg found the mark in the final minute to cut the 1st period lead to 3-1.  Neither team could manage a goal in the 2nd, in what was a close battle.  With 8:19 remaining in the 3rd, the Ice Dawgs found some life with a goal, cutting the Satelites lead to 3-2, but in the final minutes of the game, with the goalie pulled, North Winnipeg scored an empty netter to ice the game.

North Winnipeg was led by Glen Paupanekis, who scored 2 goals.  Jesse McIntosh & Colin Yarchuk added single goals.  Marc Hildebrand made 24 saves in the Satelites goal for the win.
Arborg got a goal and an assist from Colton Davies.  Ryan Pochailo added a single marker.  Jon Narverud played well, making 28 saves on 31 shots to the keep the Ice Dawgs close.

The next KJHL action was Thursday evening, as the Norway House North Stars played host to the OCN Storm.  This was a close checking affair, as there was only one 1st period goal, scored on the power play by OCN.  The Storm added a second goal in the 2nd frame, and held a 2-0 lead heading to the 3rd period.  In the 3rd, OCN exploded for 4 more goals, and held a commanding 6-0 lead.  The North Stars got back, but couldn’t muster any more offence, eventually giving up one more goal, and going on to lose 7-1.

OCN was led by Matthew Gardner, who recorded 2 goals and an assist.  Bryson Constant added 3 assists.  Justince Genaille, Lodie Ipeelie & Brandon Sinclair-Martin each scored once and added an assist, while Brody Personius chipped in with 2 helpers.  Luke Penner turned aside all but one of the 28 shots he faced to earn the win.
Norway House got a lone goal from Tanner Poker.  Joey Folster was busy in goal, making 44 saves on 51 shots.

Friday night’s action consisted of two scheduled games.  Firstly, Lundar was on the road to play the Peguis Juniors.  Prior to the start of the game, the Juniors remembered and honoured William Houle, a former team member, who tragically passed away in late September.

This game opened with 2 Juniors goals in the first, followed by a Lundar goal late the period, to the cut the lead in half.  Just 18 seconds in the 2nd period, Peguis added to their lead, and held a 3-1 advantage until Lundar scored again late, cutting the score to 3-2 after 40 minutes. The Falcons tied the game close to the midway point of the 3rd, only to give up 2 goals in a 22 second span to Peguis, putting the Juniors back in front 5-3.  Just 47 seconds later, the Falcons made the score 5-4 with a goal of their own.  Peguis added an empty netter for insurance and won 6-4.

The Juniors were led in scoring by Waylon Neault, who recorded 2 goals and an assist.  Montana Tanner scored once and added an assist.  Keifer Tacan turned aside 32 shots in the win.
