Wednesday Wrap Up - Week Four

Wednesday Wrap Up - Week Four

Webmaster

Three games took place during week four of KJHL action. First up, there was the Armando Evans show as he helped carry the NCN Flames to a 5-1 victory in Cross Lake against the Islanders. Evans would pot the game winner in the second period and add two more in the third in the victory. Keistin Saunders would add two assists in the win that would put him at the top of the scoring standings in the win. Braedin Melstad would make 28 saves in the victory that would stamp the Flames to first place in the standings regardless of the upcoming weekends' games.

On Saturday, the OCN Storm would travel south to Peguis to take on the Juniors. Skating out to a 7-1 second period lead would prove enough, even with the Storm adding 5 third period goals, to give Peguis the win 9-6. Shaydon Mouesseau would put up a hat trick and add one assist, Ayden Manningway would score twice and Marcus Crate would add a goal and two assists in the victory. Chavez Constant would stay hot in the loss potting a hat trick and one assist in the loss.

A Sunday afternoon rematch would see the Storm out for some Halloween revenge in taking on the Juniors in an afternoon tilt. They would appear on their way to victory skating out to a 4-2 second period lead, but the Juniors would erase that with a 5 goal third period and would take a 7-4 win. Ayden Manningway and Lyle Murdock would score twice and Darian Murdock would add two assists in the win that would see Tyrese Bear make 33 saves. Wesley Beardy (2G), Sheldon Chartier (2A), Chavez Constant (1G,1A) and Roger Houle Jr. (1G,1A) would each put up two points in the loss. Nolan Sinclair Jr. would make 40 saves in the losing effort.

This weeks matchups will see the following:

Saturday - The NCN Flames travel west to OCN to take on the Storm in their home opener at 7:30pm. The game will take place in The Pas at the Roy H. Johnston arena. The Peguis Juniors will travel north to Cross Lake to take on the Islanders at 7:30pm.

Sunday - Rematches on Sunday will see both games drop the puck at 1:30pm. The Juniors will battle the Islanders in Cross Lake and the Flames will battle the Storm in the The Pas.

The Flames will look to extend their lead atop the KJHL standings while the Juniors, Islanders and Storm will look to close the gap. Keistin Saunders continues to lead the league in the points race with teammate Armando Evans just one point back. Chavez Constant of the Storm and Dreydin Garrick of the Islanders will look to add to their already impressive totals in closing the gap on Saunders. Flames goaltender Braedin Melstad continues to lead the goaltending race with a dazzling .931 save percentage, with OCN Storm goaltender Freddy Martin close behind with an impressive .929 save percentage.

Sponsorship Announcement

The Keystone Junior Hockey League (KJHL) is proud to announce a new partnership with Western Nations Fuelled by Co-op, which has joined the league as a major sponsor. This collaboration marks an exciting milestone for the KJHL, a league made entirely of First Nations hockey teams dedicated to developing young athletes across Northern Manitoba and beyond. "We are thrilled to have partnered with Western Nations Fuelled by Co-op in promoting Junior Hockey in Northern Manitoba," said Marcel Fontaine, President of the Keystone Junior Hockey League. "This partnership will help strengthen the opportunities for our players, support the growth of First Nations hockey, and enhance the overall experience for our communities and fans." While the KJHL is proudly comprised of First Nations teams, the league welcomes players from all backgrounds and communities across Canada. Young men from every race and region come together through the KJHL, united by their passion for hockey and the spirit of teamwork. The sponsorship from Western Nations Fuelled by Co-op will help support league operations, community engagement initiatives, and player development programs. Both organizations share a commitment to empowering youth and fostering community pride through sport. The KJHL continues to play a vital role in promoting hockey throughout Manitoba’s northern First Nations, offering young athletes the chance to compete at a high level while staying connected to their culture and communities - while also welcoming new players from across the country who share a love for the game.
Message from the President

A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

As the President of the Keystone Junior Hockey League, ahead of the start of a new season, I would like to acknowledge all of the hard work of the KJHL Executive Board, all of the team Governors, General Managers and Coaches on a job well done these past couple of seasons and the importance of keeping Junior Hockey alive and well in the North for our younger generation. The level of competition each team brings makes for exciting hockey, and any team can beat any team on any given night. We are excited for the start of a new season!
