SATURDAY
The Norway House North Stars were on the road this weekend, travelling to Peguis to take on the Juniors in the home opener. The excitement was evident, as Peguis jumped out in front and never looked back. First period tallies by Quinton Flett, Nathaniel Murdock, Coulson Nepinak, Darian Murdock and Tyrome Spence put the Juniors ahead 5-0 after one. Six more in the second period off the sticks of Tyrome Spence (2), Brayden Deluenne, Sundance Paul, Shane Bear and Quinton Flett's second of the game would give them an 11-2 lead after two. The North Stars would pot two from Elvis Balfour and Troy Muswagon. Norway House would add three more in the third in trying to close the gap from Roman Muminawatum and Tanner Poker (2), but Peguis would also tally three from Nathaniel Murdock, Darian Murdock and Quinton Flett to secure their first win of the season 14-5. Nolan Favel would pick up the win stopping 26 of 31 shots.
The OCN Storm would hit the road to Cross Lake to take on the Islanders for a weekend doubleheader. OCN would start hot with three first period goals. Keith Monias, Chasin Thompson and Tanner Barbeau would light the lamp to take a 3-0 lead to the first intermission. Bryson Werbicki-Mallet would score 29 seconds into the second to give them a quick 4-0 lead before Cross Lake would get themselves on the board. Wilfred Mcleod would start the charge back with two, followed by powerplay goals from Chris Ross and Vince Scott before Mcleod would complete the hat trick before the period ended. Barbeau and Chavez Constant (shorthanded) would give the Storm a 6-5 lead after two. Mcleod would get his fourth on the night in the third before Troy Head would tack on a third period hat trick to skate the Storm to a 9-6 win. Freddy Martin would pick up the win in net, and Peter Ross would be tabbed with the loss.
SUNDAY
An early afternoon start in Peguis would not help the Norway House North Stars find thier first win, as Peguis would once again emerge victorious skating to a 7-1 victory. Goals from Tyrome Spence (4), Quinton Flett, Ethan Daniels and Nathaniel Murdock would give Peguis their second victory of the year and put them alone in second place. Norway House would get a shorthanded marker from Elvis Balfour early in the second to break the shutout of Drey Flett, who would stop 26 of 27 shots thrown his way. Dominic Bernitic would be charged with the loss for the North Stars, who fall to 0-4-1 early in the year.
OCN would come into the afternoon tilt looking to take home thier 7th victory of the year from Cross Lake. Cross Lake had other ideas and potted five first period goals. Scorers included Armando Evans, Clinton Armstrong on the powerplay, Quinton Scatch, Dixon Thomas and Justin Dorion. OCN would respond with two of their own from Chasin Thompson and Dray Garrick to trail 5-2 after one. From there, the Storm would start to mount a comeback with three second period goals from Chavez Constant and two from league leading scorer Bryson Werbicki-Mallet. Dennis Scatch would add on his first of the game to give the Islanders a 6-5 lead after two periods. The second intermission was kind to the Storm, as they came out hot in the third period with goals from Dray Garrick (his second of the night on the powerplay), Keith Monias (shorthanded), Sheldon Chartier and Chavez Constant adding his second at the buzzer to give OCN their 7th victory of the season with back to back 9-6 wins.
