The Keystone Junior Hockey League is excited to announce it's award finalists for the leagues' Top Defenseman. The Top Defenseman award is bestowed upon an individual determined to be the top defense player who demonstrates throughout the season the greatest all-around ability in the position during the regular season.
The three nominees (listed in no particular order) are as follows:
Shane Bear, Peguis Juniors - Shane Bear is a rookie defensman with the Juniors. He anchored the backend this season, putting up 5 goals and 13 assists in 25 games to help the Juniors secure third place in the regular season. Bear also scored two powerplay goals and chipped in two powerplay assists.
Chavez Constant, OCN Storm - Chavez Constant is a veteran for the OCN Storm and was the top scoring defenseman on the team this season. In 28 games, Constant put up 17 goals and 40 assists for 57 points. Putting up 2.0 points per game he anchorred the Storm from the backend and helped them secure home ice in the KJHL semifinals. He also led his team in powerplay assists with 13.
Tyler McKay, Norway House North Stars - Veteran Tyler McKay led the Norway House North Stars in scoring during the regular season. McKay put up 14 goals and 16 assists for 30 points in just 18 games. His 1.7 points per game from the backend were outstanding, as he also chipped in with 5 powerplay goals and 5 powerplay assists in quarterbacking the powerplay from the backend.

A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Another hockey season is among us and I can’t express how excited we the KJHL are for another exciting season. A brief update on the KJHL, due to unfortunate and unforeseen circumstances, the Waywayseecappo Wild and the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation Selects will be taking a leave of absence for 1 year and will be back next season. Business will go on per usual and the KJHL will operate with 5 teams, OCN Storm, Peguis Juniors, NCN Flames, Norway House Northstars and Cross Lake Islanders. The season will kick off on October 5th in Peguis as the Juniors host the Cross Lake Islanders and also in Nisichawaysihk as the Flames host the Norway House Northstars. Every team is looking like a contender this season which means exciting hockey games. We look forward to seeing you at the KJHL games this season and good luck to all teams!
