Wednesday Wrap Up - Week Eight

Wednesday Wrap Up - Week Eight

Webmaster

Another busy weekend of KJHL action this past week saw four games of action. The OCN Storm were in Cross Lake to take on the Islanders, while the NCN Flames were in Norway House to take on the North Stars.

The Storm and Islanders would battle back and forth all night, that would see the game head to overtime. Captain Chavez Constant would be the hero and score the winner that would give the Storm a critical two points. The Storm would also see goals off the tape of Pierce Beardy, Roger Houle Jr. and Conroy Halcrow before Constant would score in OT. Taylor McLeod would get the win in net that would see him make 43 saves. The Islanders would get goals from Creighton Sinclair (2) and Christian Ross, while Peter Ross would make a dazzling 49 saves in the losing net.

Meanwhile over in Norway House, they would open the home portion of their schedule against the league leading NCN Flames. The Flames would have a strong second and third period that would see them skate away with a 7-3 win. Jase Robinson, Jerome Linklater, Jody Spence, Curtis Shamanski, James Moore and Logan Primrose (2) would lead the offense with Braedin Melstad picking up the win making 37 saves. The North Stars would be paced by goals from Iverson Ettawacappo, Raheen Muswagon and Brycen Francour, while Odin Church would be dealt the loss in making 42 saves.

On Sunday, the Storm would look for a crucial sweep in Cross Lake and would get just that with an 11-5 win. The Storm offense would be lead again by Constant who would put up a 5 point night. Goals would come from Blaine Dorion (3), Constant (3), Sheldon Chartier (2), Hutton Hurst-Foster (2) and Damon Constant. Taylor McLeod would pick up another win while making 21 saves. Cross Lake would get goals from  Crieghton Sinclair, Draydin Robinson, Kadin Ross, Christian Ross and Dawson Osborne. Marcus Ross would be dealt the loss in making 16 saves, and Peter Ross would see action as well in making 21 saves.

In a tight contest back in Norway House Sunday afternoon, the North Stars would get their first win of the season picking up a 3-1 over the NCN Flames. Raheen Muswagon would get two goals in the second period and Brycen Francour would score a third period powerplay goal to pace the offense. Austin Wheeler would pick up the win in net and would make 36 saves. NCN would get a goal off the stick of Captain Keistin Saunders, with Braedin Melstad in net making 33 saves in a losing effort.

Week Nine of KJHL action will see the following:

Saturday - OCN Storm at Norway House North Stars at 7:30pm
Sunday - Cross Lake Islanders at Peguis Juniors at 1:30pm

A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Another hockey season is among us and I can’t express how excited we the KJHL are for another exciting season. A brief update on the KJHL, due to unfortunate and unforeseen circumstances, the Waywayseecappo Wild and the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation Selects will be taking a leave of absence for 1 year and will be back next season.  Business will go on per usual and the KJHL will operate with 5 teams, OCN Storm, Peguis Juniors, NCN Flames, Norway House Northstars and Cross Lake Islanders. The season will kick off on October 5th in Peguis as the Juniors host the Cross Lake Islanders and also in Nisichawaysihk as the Flames host the Norway House Northstars.  Every team is looking like a contender this season which means exciting hockey games.  We look forward to seeing you at the KJHL games this season and good luck to all teams!
