The 2016 portion of the KJHL schedule drew to a close with only a few games before Christmas, and then 2 rescheduled games before New Years.
Action began, as it often does on Tuesday, when the Lundar Falcons paid a visit to the North Winnipeg Satelites.
North Winnipeg 5 - Lundar 4 (OT)
The Satelites were led by Parker Cassie with 2 goals and an assist, along with Braden Zamrykut with a goal and 2 assists. Wyatt Emes stopped 34 of the 38 shots he faced for the win.
Lundar was led by Craig Wiess & Mason Medeiros with 2 goals each. Both Landen Gray and Jason Nikkel each recorded 2 assists. Braydon Weatherburn earned his team the single point by stopping 38 of 43 shots.
Action continued Wednesday night with 2 games.
Cross Lake 5 - OCN 3
Cross was led by Tyrell Armstrong with 2 goals and 2 assists. Treymian Trout finished with a goal and an assist. Tie Braun added a goal and an assist. Tory Monias turned aside 34 of the 37 shots thrown at him to earn the win.
OCN's Devon Tobacco scored twice to lead the Storm. Aavory Wilkie got a single goal. Antthony Fontaine faced 30 shots in the game, stopping 25 of them.
Peguis 13 - Fisher River 6
The Juniors 3 goals and 3 assists from Tyrome Spence-Bair. Theoren Spence added 2 goals & 4 assists for 6 points. Roman Paul finished with 2 goals & 3 assists, while Tyler Woodhouse chipped in with 2 goals and 2 assists. Quinton Flett & Keifer Tacan both finished with 3 points and Coulson Nepinak added 2 points. Luke Penner turned aside 38 of the 44 shots he faced, earning the win.
Fisher River's Johnny Beaulieu finished with 2 goals and 3 assists of his own. Jared Thickfoot, Brennan Cochrane & Josh Beaulieu all finished with 3 points. Nolan Favel faced 67 shots, making 54 saves in the game.
Thursday night had a rematch between Fisher River and Peguis.
Peguis 5 - Fisher River 2
Peguis got a goal and 2 assists from Theoren Spence. Devon Garson added a goal & an assist and Elmer Maytwashing added 2 helpers. Luke Penner earned his second straight win with a 33 save performance.
The Hawks were led by Nicolas Murdock and Johnny Beaulieu with single markers each. Nolan Favel faced 65 shots in this game, stopping 60 of them.
This concluded the schedule before Christmas. There were two rescheduled games from earlier in the season that were played just before New Years.
Peguis 16 - Norway House 5
Dylan Stevenson scored 4 goals and added 4 assists, while Tyrome Spence-Bair added a hat trick and 5 assists to lead the Juniors. Theoren Spence scored 6 times, and recorded an assist. Both Quinton Flett & Tyler Woodhouse scored once and recorded 5 assists. Devun Groot finished with 5 points and both Devon Garson and Ian Sutherland added 2 points. Dray Flett stopped 38 shots in the game for the win.
Norway House was led by Harley Muminwatum, who scored 2 goals and added an assist. Drew Tait-Reaume, Jesse Muswagon, Hunter York, & Michael Clarke all ended the game with 2 points. Brendan McLeod faced 86 shots in the game, making 70 saves.
The final game on the 2016 portion of the schedule saw Norway House take on Fisher River.
Fisher River 9 - Norway House 5
The Hawks were led by Evan Thickfoot who scored a goal and added 4 assists. Christian Cochrane scored once and added 3 assists, while Jared Thickfoot recorded a hat trick and added an assist. Darryl Thaddeus scored twice and added an assist. Melford Cochrane added 2 points. Elliot Wilson started the game, stopping 22 of 25 shots. Jarrod Smith finished the game, and made 23 saves on 25 shots.
The North Stars were led by Jesse Muswagon with 2 goals and 1 assist. Ethan Scott-Beardy and Clinton Apetagon both finished with 2 points. Brendan McLeod finished with 48 saves in the game.
KJHL begins in 2017 with a game Tuesday night between the Arborg Ice Dawgs and the North Winnipeg Satelites. Thursday pits Norway House in OCN. Friday evening has 3 games: Fisher River in Lundar, Selkirk in St. Malo & Peguis in Arborg. There are 2 games on Saturday night as the OCN Storm make a trip to St. Malo and the Satelites are in Norway House. Sunday has 3 afternoon games as the Satelites complete their road trip in Cross Lake, Arborg heads to Fisher River & OCN makes a stop in Selkirk.
